Sports Premium

Schools all across the UK have now been given Sports Grants to help promote sports and increased physical activity in primary school children.

The government is providing funding to provide new and substantial primary school sport funding. The funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary school headteachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children. The money can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.

Sports Premium Funding Sustainability

The impact of PE and Sport Premium funding will be sustained in the future through continued investment in high-quality staff CPD, ensuring teachers have the skills, confidence and knowledge to deliver effective PE lessons long term. In addition, the funding supports a strong enrichment offer for pupils eligible for Pupil Premium, helping to increase participation, engagement and access to sport. These approaches ensure that improvements to physical education and sporting opportunities are embedded and benefit all pupils beyond the period of funding.

Impact on Participation and Attainment in PE

The PE and Sport Premium funding has had a positive impact on pupils across the school by significantly increasing participation in sport and physical activity. More children than in previous years have taken part in sports clubs, with particularly strong engagement from disadvantaged and Pupil Premium pupils. Targeted initiatives, such as the all-girls cricket clubs, have been highly successful in boosting confidence, enjoyment and inclusion. In addition, a greater number of pupils are now reaching the Age-Related Expectation in PE compared to previous years, demonstrating improved skill development and physical competence across the school.
