At Thurnby Mead Primary Academy, our music curriculum ensures that all pupils perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions. Children learn to sing and use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others. They also have the opportunity to sing in a choir and perform to others in assembly and end-of-term concerts.
Children understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated including pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations. Children have opportunities to learn a musical instrument including focussed ukulele lessons in Year 4 and Djembe drumming lessons in Year 5 and Year 6 through Leicester-shire Schools Music Service. In addition they have opportunities to perform in school concerts and at De Montfort Hall concerts.
